If it is on the menu when I am out, you can bet I will be ordering Salt & Chilli Tofu. It has to be one of my all time favourite dishes, but one I have never quite managed to perfect. My biggest problem was them tasting a bit “floury”, but after numerous attempts I finally created a recipe I am proud of! It is really easy to make and does not take long at all (apart from the 30 minutes or so of waiting for the tofu).
Whenever we have this recently I serve it up with noodles and a curry of some sort, the current fave is a satay curry look out for the recipe in the coming weeks! But anyhoo, enough prattling, the recipe for my salt & chilli tofu is below….
Ingredients
1 x block tofu
4 x tablespoons corn flour
2 x teaspoons salt
2 x teaspoons black pepper
2Β x teaspoons garlic powder
2 x chillies, finely chopped
2 x cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 x spring onions, roughly chopped
Method
Cut the tofu into bite sized chunks and prepare it as usual (instructions on how to prep it are here)
Mix together the flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder
Coat each piece of tofu in the mixture
Fry the tofu pieces in around a centimetre of oil in a wok, be sure not to over fill the pan, I tend to do 3 batches
Each batchΒ will take around 5 minutes to cook
After all the tofu is cooked remove it from the oil and add in the chillis, garlic and spring onions
Allow them to fry for a couple of minutes, but do not let them burn
Top the tofu with the mixture and then serve immediately
Let me know if you like it!
