I know a lot of people out there do not buy into the whole New Year’s resolutions thing, but I am a huge fan! Every year around about October I start to think of what I want to change in my life. I then set them aside as something to have for a resolution. Often people just pick the standard, “Get fit” or “Quit smoking” which is fine if that is something you really want to commit to change. If you don’t really want to do it though, then don’t, you will only quit. For me the New Year is a perfect clean slate to start which I 100% believe in and want to change. Normally I start to transition into it the month or weeks before as well so it is not such a shock to the system.
Obviously, I would suggest to anyone who doesn’t yet have one to try making 2017 the year they go cruelty free. Have a look at my blog post on the best way to do it! Sorry couldn’t help myself!
So love them or hate them, my New Years resolutions for 2017 are below……
About a year ago I watched a video of Lauren Zinger a zero waste blogger from NYC. It really inspired me and I realised just how incredibly wasteful a person I am. I throw food out, I waste plastic, I put way too much stuff to the tip and am not at all organised with my recycling. Straight away I knew I had to make a change. It is a huge task which will take me years to fully manage but I 100% want to change many aspects of my lifestyle. The specifics of this resolution are:
- Recycle everything which can be
- Buy products made from recycled materials where it is an option
- Never use disposable plastic cups, straws or cutlery (even if out and about)
- Recycle all food waste
- Don’t waste any food
Be semi fluent in Italian
I like to call it fluent, but I know that is not what it really is. Basically I want to be able to communicate in Italian in every situation. I have been learning for a year and a half now but have made no real progress so this is a big want for me. It will require at least 30 minutes of learning every day, which I will do! I have already started this one by following some blogs and Instagram accounts who only post in Italian, which is actually really helping! Così mi auguro fortuna (wish me luck)!
Be more healthy
This is never normally on the list for me, I am normally a pretty healthy person. This year though something changed. I started finding all the things in my life stacking up on me. Preparing myself a healthy lunch and dinner each day or going to the gym really fell to the side. So I plan to start again and to be honest, it goes hand in hand with my first resolution. I will be cooking meals with non packaged ingredients and not wasting food so will be forced to use up leftover fruit and veg! I also plan to start doing yoga at least twice a week.
I am actually really looking forward to committing to all of these things in 2017. What resolutions do you have? Is anyone doing anything similar to me?
